The PGCE – Postgraduate Certificate in Education offered by Apsley Business School is designed for professionals hoping to integrate the latest scholarship and theory with the practical day-to-day aspects of their educational practice. The programme of study is flexible, with a strict focus on the quality of your assessed work, rather than volume. As such, it is ideal for the motivated high achiever, who is balancing their work, study and family commitments. The programme can be completed in 12 months on average, depending on your personalised study plan. Note: this programme involves compulsory teaching practice and an Enhanced Police Check from the Disclosure and Barring Service, because you are working with children and/or vulnerable adults in a school setting.

Whole programme:

The whole PGCE is accredited at 90 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System Credits), which is equivalent to 180 credits at the postgraduate level in the British system. Most students will complete the whole programme in 6 to 18 months. The delivery is either classroom based, blended or online. The content, delivery, and final certification are identical for each mode of study. Note: this programme involves compulsory teaching practice and an Enhanced Police Check from the Disclosure and Barring Service, because you are working with children and/or vulnerable adults in a school setting.

Apsley’s PGCE programmes contain the following units: In-school teaching practice I; Pedagogical theory; Sociology of Education; Special Educational Needs Practice; Coaching and mentoring young people; In-school teaching practice II; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for infants and youth; Safeguarding young people

TARGET STUDENTS

Apsley’s PGCE programmes are aimed at professionals who wish to increase their skill and knowledge portfolios, and to help them achieve their career goals. The PGCE demonstrates a deeper theoretical understanding of the topic, and wider independent study. The majority of our applicants are already employed in a school setting and are hoping to take over whole classroom duties, or have teaching experience overseas, and wish to retrain for the British system.
