The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by Research offered by Apsley Business School London is designed for working professionals who wish to explore in depth an area of new academic knowledge to contribute to the global scientific consensus. The expectation is that candidates will choose work that will have Significant Impact on the scientific community. It is a rigorous research based programme delivered in the classroom, blended or flexibly online depending on the specific needs of the candidate at different stages in the programme. This is because each dissertation is unique, innovative and personalised, so the delivery will be adapted to ensure the highest quality of data collection and analysis. Whole programme:
The whole PhD is accredited at 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System Credits), which is equivalent to 480 credits at the postgraduate level in the British system. Most students will complete the whole programme in a minimum of 36 months. The delivery is classroom based, blended or online, depending on where you are on your journey. Notes on recognition: The equivalent of the European doctoral degree is the Doctor of Philosophy degree abbreviated as PhD, Ph.D. or D.Phil. in Anglo-Saxon countries (USA and UK). This programme is accredited by OTHM/OfQual in the UK, recognised globally. In accordance with Article 328(1) of the Law on Higher Education and Science dated July 20, 2018. (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668), i.e. as of March 3, 2022 (Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574), as amended, “An academic degree and a degree in art conferred by an authorized institution operating in a member state of the European Union, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area is equivalent to the corresponding academic degree or degree in art referred to in the Act.” The UK is a member of the OECD, while before Brexit it was also a member of the EU, with the result that titles already conferred could not lose their validity according to the principle of acquired rights, while those currently conferred by an authorized institution are equivalent to the corresponding degree in the EEA and Poland. Apsley Business School is a business school that is authorized to award doctoral awards in the UK, because it is accredited by OTHM/ OfQual, and is listed on the UK Register of Learning Providers on the government portal (UKPRN 10084917).
Each unit:
The PhD by Research comprises basically three phases, a taught phase where you will be taught Quantative and Qualititative Research Methods at the Doctorate Level, as well as how to conduct a Literature Review for significant impact. There is a research phase where you will start to publish academic work alongside your literature review and research. The final stage is the extended dissertation, where you will analyse and defend your work. Finally there is an Oral Defence in front of a panel drawn from the Academic Committee. The precise size and scope of your Research Dissertation will depend on your research topic- we advise you to contact the Programme Leader who will guide you on a personal basis.
